VIENNA

Residents and passers-by in the vicinity of the Youngstown Air Reserve Station here should not be alarmed to hear weapons fire on the facility from this evening until early Thursday.

A YARS spokesman said members of the 910th Airlift Wing’s Security Forces Squadron and Department of Defense security officers will be conducting weapons qualification from 10 p.m. today until about 6 a.m. Thursday.

The weapons fire is a scheduled event and is necessary to maintain the mission readiness of the security personnel assigned to the 910th, officials said.

Inmates train dogs

LEAVITTSBURG

Six dogs will enter Trumbull Correctional Institution today to begin an eight-week training program with prison inmates, and six will be leaving for adoption through the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County.

Elite K-9 Training of Cort-land provides the training program, and Corrections Officer Dan Janiw runs it. These veterinarians donate care to the dogs: Animal Medical Care Center, Community Animal Hospital, Parkman Road Veterinary Clinic, All Creatures, Mahoning Valley Veterinary Center, Steel Valley Clinic and Dr. Suzanne Hogue.

MVSD board to meet

MINERAL RIDGE

A special meeting of the board of directors of the Mahoning Valley Sanitary District will take place at 5 p.m. today in the assembly room at the district office, 1181 Ohltown-McDonald Road. The board will adjourn to executive session.
