Arrest warrant issued in shooting of two Warren men

Warren police have filed two felonious assault charges and a warrant for the arrest of Kardell Lowery Jr., 18, of Maple Street Southwest, in the early Tuesday shooting of two Ferndale Avenue Southwest men.

He’s accused of shooting Jamal B. Coleman, 20, and Davion J. Rogers, 22, both of 2044 Ferndale.

Coleman was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown, but he has since been discharged.

Rogers was still in ValleyCare Trumbull Memorial Hospital on Tuesday afternoon.

Both were shot at the Ferndale address at 1:44 a.m., police said.

Both suffered a “major injury,” but Warren police were not releasing any other information on their injuries.

Lt. Jeff Cole, public information officer for the Warren Police Department and officer in charge, said the number of suspects involved and the circumstances surrounding the incident are “under investigation,” and he would not provide any other details.

A police report lists three males and a female, all of Warren, who were witnesses. The men are ages 20, 20 and 18 and the woman is 41.

Rogers was a standout football player at Warren G. Harding High School who played football one year — the fall of 2011 — for Youngstown State University. Rogers started 10 of 11 games at Sam linebacker as a redshirt freshman, but left the program following the fall semester. He finished sixth on the team in tackles in 2011 with 45.

He signed to play at the University of Michigan the season before that, but left that program after failing to qualify academically.

In February 2012, Austintown police issued a summons to Rogers for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
