CAMPBELL

City police arrested two people on drug-trafficking charges after a traffic stop.

Arvella R. Davis, 34, of Sunshine Avenue, and Priscilla L. Jackson, 31, of South Heights Avenue, both in Youngstown, were stopped at 6:14 p.m. Sunday on Center Street for having a cracked windshield, a license-plate light that wasn’t working and having objects hanging from the rearview mirror, a police report says.

Davis, who was driving, consented to a search of his car. The officer discovered small plastic bags of suspected drugs hidden in a compartment under the console, the report says.

Police confiscated 49 bags of suspected crack cocaine, a bag of 26 Tramadol pills and two bags of suspected marijuana.

Police also found two bags of suspected crack cocaine and a bag of suspected marijuana on Davis, along with $952, the report says. They found $125 on Jackson.

Equipment theft

YOUNGSTOWN

A former Mahoning Valley business owner was sentenced Tuesday to four years in prison for stealing more than $2 million worth of heavy equipment.

According to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, a judge in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court also ordered Robert Martin of Goshen Township to pay more than $150,000 in restitution.

Martin pleaded guilty in February to four counts of receiving stolen property after investigators discovered he had been stealing equipment for more than a decade.

Martin Desmond, an assistant county prosecutor, said what started off as something small, taking one or two pieces of equipment, grew into Martin taking more than 60 pieces of heavy equipment.

Martin apologized to his family and his victims for his crimes.

Woman reports robbery

Police were called to Roosevelt Street Northwest at about 2:15 p.m. Tuesday for a woman saying she’d been robbed at gunpoint.

Police searched north of there along Vernon Street Northwest and in the Warren Heights apartments on the North End.

They also searched wooded areas near the apartments, getting assistance from a police dog, but called off the search around 3:30 p.m. They were looking for a bald, black male wearing a dark blue overcoat.

Theft charge dropped

WARREN

A misdemeanor theft charge against Dennis J. Griffing, a Warren operations department employee who admitted stealing 15 to 20 newspapers per day from Warren vending boxes for more than a year, has been dropped.

Griffing appeared in Warren Municipal Court, where Judge Terry Ivanchak ordered Griffing to pay $2,235 in restitution. The charge was dropped because he was willing to pay restitution and attended a theft diversion program, court officials said.

Griffing, 53, of North Street Northwest, brother of Warren Auditor David Griffing, was caught taking the newspapers by a police investigator who conducted surveillance on him as he left for work in April.

Griffing said he took the newspapers to the operations department to share with co-workers.

She was crying and appeared to be highly intoxicated, saying she was assaulted by two females. A male friend said he found her but didn’t know what happened.
