POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:
GIRARD
Nov. 8
Criminal mischief: A window to a home in the 100 block of East Main Street was broken, possibly from a BB or pellet gun or a large stone.
Nov. 9
Assault: A man reported having been choked while in a dispute with another man in the 10 block of East Second Street.
Breaking and entering: Authorities received information that three people had used a screwdriver to enter a residence in the 300 block of East Kline Street. The three fled in a vehicle before police arrived, however.
Nov. 10
Attempted breaking and entering: Police charged a Niles boy, no age given, with attempted breaking and entering as well as violating curfew after responding to a situation in which a garage on East Wilson Avenue may have been entered. The boy was found lying next to a backyard fence near an alley and taken into custody, a report showed.
Summons: Bobbie J. Poe, 30, of Taylor Avenue, Girard, was issued a summons charging failure to restrain a vicious dog after a neighbor reported her dog had been attacked.
Menacing: A man in a vehicular crash in the 1400 block of South State Street reported the driver he said had caused the accident threatened to shoot the accuser if he contacted police.
Arrest: Officers responded to a disturbance in the 40 block of Crumlin Avenue, where 25-year-old Thomas Meckulch of Church Hill-Hubbard Road, Girard, was charged with disorderly conduct. Meckulch’s sister alleged he was destroying property at her home, and he refused to calm down and leave the room, police said.
LIBERTY
Nov. 7
Theft: Altalese K. Parnell of Willis Avenue and Sierra K. Walker of West Midlothian Boulevard received minor-misdemeanor citations charging the two 18-year-old Youngstown women with stealing nail polish, makeup and other items from Dollar General in the Liberty Plaza.
Arrest: Suspicious activity in the 3900 block of Logan Way drew officers’ attention before they took into custody Kurtis M. Bechtel of Kelly Road, Hermitage, Pa. The 22-year-old man was wanted on a Hubbard Township warrant charging possession of drug-abuse instruments.
Nov. 8
Domestic violence: Glenn Mosley, 52, was arrested at his Northgate Road residence on a felony domestic-violence charge after his girlfriend alleged the Liberty man had twice struck her, leaving a bump and red marks on her forehead. Also, Mosley was on probation in Girard Municipal Court related to a prior domestic-violence conviction, a report said.
Assault: Authorities responded to a fight in the 3000 block of Northgate Drive that apparently started when a dog got loose. A woman reported a neighbor punched her face and another person fired a stun gun at the accuser, though none of the combatants wished to file charges.
Nov. 9
Arrest: A traffic stop near the Liberty Plaza led to 29-year-old Louis J. Hebert Jr.’s arrest. Hebert, of West Hartford Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired and having no operator’s license.
Theft: A Fowler man told police another man and possibly a woman stole his $300 iPhone while the victim was at a convenience store in the 3200 block of Belmont Avenue.
Arrests: Police dealt with suspicious activity in the 3000 block of Green Acres Drive, where they charged a Youngstown boy, 14, along with 22-year-old Brian K. Walker of Colonial Drive, Liberty, with obstructing official business. Both ran from officers, they said.
Nov. 10
Citation: Authorities answered a call about a car in a ditch off Ravine Drive, where they cited 59-year-old Marilyn Moore-Davis of Cordova Avenue, Youngstown, on charges of operating a vehicle impaired and failure to control a motor vehicle.
Arrests: Police responded to suspicious activity in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue and took into custody Roseanna Talley, 59, of Gypsy Lane, Liberty, and Edward Frazier, 61, of Thornton Avenue, Youngstown, on charges of having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Frazier faced an additional disorderly-conduct charge when, police said, they saw him urinating in a nearby grassy area.
Nov. 11
Burglary: Occurred in the 3000 block of Northgate Road through a rear door. Stolen were a 47-inch flat-screen TV, a gold necklace and a necklace box, for a loss of $1,750.
Nov. 12
Aggravated menacing: A Mansell Drive woman told authorities a Girard man, 19, threatened in a text message to shoot the accuser regarding the man’s girlfriend.
Possible theft: A woman reported seeing a suspicious man loading a $1,300 aluminum commercial kitchen vent onto his blue pickup truck at a Hadley Avenue residence.
Breaking and entering: It was undetermined if anything was missing from a shed someone had entered in the 3500 block of Cardinal Drive.
Nov. 13
Trespassing: Authorities answered a call about someone at a Belmont Avenue gas station asking customers for money before filing a criminal-trespassing charge against 24-year-old Eric J. Wallace of Northview Avenue, Liberty. Wallace, who had been told to stay off the property, also was charged in a similar situation earlier in the evening at a Belmont Avenue pizzeria, a report said.
Auto theft: A 2001 Oldsmobile Intrigue was stolen in the 4200 block of Logangate Road.
Arrest: Police responded to a possible shoplifting situation at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, where they took Darrell Dilla, no age listed, of Trumbull Court, Liberty, into custody. He was wanted on a bench warrant charging failure to appear in court.
Nov. 14
Drugs: Police near Belmont Avenue handed a minor-misdemeanor citation to 35-year-old Summer E. Alderman of Idora Avenue, Youngstown, after saying she had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe.
Nov. 15
Citation: Officers near Sampson Drive pulled over Michael P. Thompson, 25, of Beechwood Drive, Girard, and cited him on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.
