Preschool brings Halloween fun to SOV

Preschoolers dressed in a variety of Halloween costumes made crafts with residents of Shepherd of the Valley Oct. 30.
Kiddin’ Around Pre-school, located at Boardman-Canfield Road, partners with the facility, said Nancy Alberti, teacher.
The students visit with the residents at the West Boulevard facility several times a year, including Halloween, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Veteran’s Day. They make crafts with the residents, perform for them and bring something for them to display in their rooms.
“It’s good for them and it’s good for us, too,” Alberti said. “They get a sense of community, a sense of belonging to something bigger than just the pre-school, that there’s more out there. There are other things going on in the community than just school and home.”
For Halloween, the children made ghost and black cat crafts with the residents. They decorated pumpkins for the residents’ rooms. Following the craft-making, they paraded through the halls and rooms, showing off their Halloween costumes.
“It’s wonderful for the residents,” said Porsha Franklin, a resident.
Seeing the children makes them feel young again, she added.
Taylor Brown dressed as a ladybug. She said making the crafts with the residents was fun. She also enjoys meeting new people.
