POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

Nov. 5

Burglary: Occurred in the 8300 block of Youngstown-Pittsburgh Road through a basement door, though it appeared nothing was stolen.

Nov. 11

Criminal damaging: A rooster lawn decoration was damaged in the 6500 block of Lowellville Road.

BOARDMAN

Nov. 8

Harassment: A Phoenix woman told police a West Boulevard woman has sent the accuser more than 1,000 such online and text messages.

Theft: A man stole two pairs of high-heeled shoes from Payless Shoesource, 48 Boardman-Poland Road, and left in a light-blue vehicle.

Theft: A Southern Park Mall employee reported a $600 cellphone stolen while operating a children’s train ride.

Domestic violence: Andrew L. Freed, 28, of Arden Boulevard, Youngstown, was charged with domestic violence and violating a protection order after a West Boulevard woman alleged Freed had twice punched her head during a dispute about their son. He also violated the order she had filed in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court, a police report said.

Theft: A man used a knife to open boxes and take two cellphones from Target, 417 Boardman-Poland Road.

Attempted burglary: A woman in her Oak Avenue living room told police she heard someone pushing against her air-conditioning unit in an effort to enter. After she screamed, the intruder fled, a report showed.

Theft: A woman in her 20s stole a seven-piece comforter set valued at $70 from Kmart, 1209 Boardman-Poland Road.

Nov. 9

Theft: A woman stole several small items from Family Dollar, 4028 South Ave.

Theft: Charmonique M. North, 19, of Dickson Street, Youngstown, was charged in the theft of a cosmetics item from Family Dollar.

Trespassing: Erin R. Hallas, 31, faced a criminal-trespassing charge after police reported having woken her up in a vehicle at Walgreens Pharmacy, 7295 Market St., and learning Hallas, of Melbourne Avenue, Boardman, had been asked not to return to the store.

Harassment: The owner of a U.S. Route 224 martial-arts studio reported having gotten 10 such calls.

Aggravated menacing: A worker for a Southern Park Mall store told police a woman who was angered about the service she received and made a call offering someone $500 to kill the employee.

Theft: Kristina M. Judkins, 23, of Lockwood Boulevard, Boardman, and 26-year-old Jonathan A. Russell of Timber Run Drive, Canfield, were charged in the theft of 14 DVDs and a woman’s T-shirt from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.

Breaking and entering: Someone entered a garage in the 8500 block of Southern Boulevard and removed five sheets of plywood worth $100.

Theft: Richard E. Sabatine, 65, of Bradley Lane, Youngstown, was charged with stealing a $9.23 chopped turkey from Giant Eagle, 1201 Doral Drive.

Theft: A man in his 50s took two pairs of men’s sunglasses from Family Dollar.

Nov. 10

Domestic violence: Dawn D. Chambers, 18, of East Garfield Road, Petersburg, was taken into custody in the 900 block of East Western Reserve Road on a warrant after her mother alleged Chambers had shoved her against a van during an argument.

Criminal damaging: Someone spray-painted two cars and part of a residence in the 100 block of Maple Avenue. Police answered a similar complaint in the 100 block of Indianola Road.

Criminal damaging: An obscenity in black spray paint was discovered on two garage doors in the 100 block of Indianola Road.

Theft: Someone stole $1,157.50 worth of lotions and other products from a display table at Bath & Body Works, 379 Boardman-Poland Road.

Burglary: Anthony V. Cerimeli of Indianola Road, Boardman, was charged with aggravated burglary, obstructing official business, resisting arrest and assault after authorities responded to an assault in the 600 block of Beech Avenue. The 34-year-old Cerimeli’s girlfriend returned to find him in her residence without permission before he allegedly punched the accuser and pulled out some of her hair during an argument. Also, he became hostile and struggled with police during the booking process, they said.

Criminal damaging: Two vehicles in the 5200 block of Erie Street were spray painted, though the damage was light.

Theft: A 9 mm carbine rifle was removed from a home in the 6100 block of Glenwood Avenue.

Criminal damaging: Someone pulled out and broke solar landscaping lights in a yard in the 20 block of Sciota Avenue.

Felonious assault: Officers received information that a Youngstown man had been stabbed while in the Southern Park Mall parking lot. The victim reportedly had a puncture wound to his upper back.

Criminal damaging: Someone in the 4600 block of Erie Street spray-painted and did $6,200 in damage to a motorcycle.

Breaking and entering: Police noticed forced entry to a vacant residence in the 5300 block of South Avenue via a dining-room window, though it appeared nothing was stolen.

Arrest: A traffic stop on South Avenue resulted in 28-year-old Angela Fincham’s arrest. Fincham, of South Avenue, Boardman, was charged with operating a vehicle impaired.

Nov. 11

Criminal trespassing: Someone entered a trailer on property in the 8500 block of Market Street.

Theft: A man stole four pairs of socks from Dollar General, 859 E. Midlothian Blvd.

Theft: A man and a woman took 15 cosmetics items from Family Dollar.

Vandalism: A vehicle belonging to Boardman Towing Inc., 702 McClurg Road, sustained damage to two of its locks at a township dealership.

Theft: A Canfield man reported a $200 leather coat missing while at a Crossroads Drive business.

Assault: Edmund J. Tapscott, 24, of Miller Street, Youngstown, faced a simple-assault charge after his girlfriend, of Aylesboro Avenue, alleged Tapscott had punched her head during an argument and fled.

Nov. 12

Identity theft: A Glenwood Avenue woman found a $289 fraudulent purchase for cellphone service had been charged to her checking account.

Theft: A man stole a $40 pair of work shoes from Payless Shoesource, 48 Boardman-Poland Road.

Threat: Anthony Rossi, 49, of Shadyside Drive, Boardman, was charged with making a domestic-violence threat after his son alleged Rossi threatened his life after Rossi had argued with another family member.

Menacing: A Lowellville woman in her vehicle at a South Avenue business said another woman made a hand motion toward her that simulated having a weapon.

Theft: A pair of gloves and other items were stolen from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall.

Harassment: Duane E. Williams, 40, of Friendship Avenue, Boardman, was picked up on a telecommunications-harassment warrant.

Theft: A 45-watt bulb was removed from a flood light at a home in the 4000 block of Windsor Road.

Attempted fraud: A West Western Reserve Road woman told officers she received a letter from someone in Santa Cruz, Calif., claiming she had won $9.9 million but first needed to pay $500 in income taxes. The woman was not fooled, however, a report showed.

Theft: A $20 earring set and 22 other pieces of merchandise were taken from Macy’s in the Southern Park Mall.
