BOARDMAN

Boardman police arrested a 21-year-old Struthers man in the early morning hours Thursday after he crashed his vehicle while apparently under the influence.

Jeffrey Mayhew of Lincoln Avenue is charged with aggravated vehicular assault, driving under the influence and failure to control.

At 1:39 a.m., police were called to Thalia Avenue where a red Chevrolet pick-up truck had crashed into a telephone pole.

When police arrived, one of the passengers was on the ground, apparently intoxicated and complaining of severe neck and shoulder pain, according to a police report.

Another passenger had a head injury.

Both were treated by paramedics and were transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center.

The driver, Mayhew, told police the three friends went to a restaurant and consumed multiple alcoholic beverages, according to a police report.

Mayhew declined medical attention and appeared to be intoxicated. He was asked to perform field sobriety tests and performed poorly. A Breathalyzer test result was 0.143. The legal limit for driving is 0.08.

One of the passengers in the car sustained a fractured shoulder and neck injury, which is why Mayhew was charged with aggravated vehicular assault, a third-degree felony.

He was taken to Mahoning County jail until his court date at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday or until he posts a $9,350 bond.
