Katy Perry planning something special to open the AMAs
NASHVILLE, TENN.
Katy Perry is on a four-week journey that snakes around the world, including stops in Amsterdam, Australia and Japan. She’s got Germany to go before crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Miami. And then it’s across the continent to Los Angeles.
“I am probably not going to be able to tell you what day of the week it is or what time it is because I will have lived in so many different time zones,” Perry said.
She’s got one date memorized: Nov. 24. That’s when the 29-year-old pop star will open the American Music Awards with her new single, “Unconditionally.” Her performance was announced Wednesday, along with appearances by Jennifer Lopez in tribute to Celia Cruz and TLC, and the pop star said in a phone interview she plans to step it up in what she believes is her first chance to open an awards show.
Perry, Lopez and TLC, which will feature an unannounced guest, will be joined in performance by many of the year’s top stars, including Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, Luke Bryan and One Direction. Pitbull will host the show, to air live from Los Angeles on ABC.
Wahlberg: We’re not the new Kardashians
LOS ANGELES
Mark Wahlberg says his family won’t be the new Kardashians.
Wahlberg will appear in a new unscripted A&E series about family-owned restaurant Wahlburgers alongside his mother and brothers Donnie and Paul. But the actor and producer shoots down any comparison to that other famous set of reality TV siblings.
“No, no. It’s very different. It’s very different. Nothing against them. They’ve been hugely successful,” he said in an interview Tuesday before the premiere of his war film “Lone Survivor.” “It’s just about building a family business. Uh, it’s just very different.”
In “Lone Survivor,” Wahlberg portrays Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, part of a mission gone wrong in the mountains of Afghanistan in 2005. Nineteen Americans were killed in a firefight and helicopter rescue attempt.
Woman jailed over outbursts in Baldwin stalking case
NEW YORK
Before her trial even concluded, Alec Baldwin’s accused stalker was ordered to jail for 30 days Wednesday after a series of courtroom outbursts got her declared in contempt of court.
After Genevieve Sabourin’s days of sobs, gasps, remarks and interruptions continued during some legal arguments Wednesday, Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Robert Mandelbaum told her, “That’s it.” He found her in contempt and issued the punishment, which means she’ll spend time in jail while the trial continues.
Judge Mandelbaum had warned Sabourin he might do so if she didn’t stop speaking out during the proceedings. He’s hearing the case without a jury.
Baldwin says their 2010 dinner was simply that. But Sabourin went on to conduct a campaign of harassment that escalated from an onslaught of unwanted phone calls and emails to showing up uninvited at his New York and Hamptons homes, the 55-year-old “30 Rock” star said.
