Salem police investigate stabbing death


SALEM — City police are investigating an apparent murder.

According to The Vindicator's broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV, police said a 23-year-old man was stabbed to death on the 400 block of South Broadway Ave. at 2:35 a.m. today.

Investigators say they have male suspect in custody, but have not released his name, nor the name of the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Chief J.T. Panezott says the stabbing took place in the street.

The chief says detectives are still trying to determine the circumstances that led up to the stabbing, but he expects the death to be ruled a homicide.
