State says SWAT member killed Ohio man in standoff

YELLOW SPRINGS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine says investigators concluded a SWAT team member shot and killed a western Ohio man who fired at authorities in a standoff at the man’s home.

DeWine says a Greene County grand jury will consider the findings to decide if the evidence shows criminal misconduct or a justifiable shooting.

Authorities were called to 42-year-old Paul Schenck’s home in Yellow Springs over a domestic dispute July 30. Investigators say Schenck fired at least 191 shots out of his home. Some shots hit neighboring houses and law-enforcement vehicles.

DeWine’s report says relatives said Schenck had been drinking alcohol before the standoff.

DeWine says family members also told investigators Schenck had a history of mental illness and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 16.
