Sharon football team falls 22-19 in the final minute

The Sharon football team fell 22-19 in the final minute to Girard (Pa.) in their Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League first round game at Veterans Stadium in Erie (Pa.).

Monday night’s game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed after two members of the team, Corey Swartz and Evan Gill, were killed in a car accident Friday night in Sharon. Two more members, brothers Craig and Gregg Osmon were injured in the accident and did not play.

The Tigers took a 19-14 lead into the fourth quarter. With two minutes left, Girard started its final drive. On 4th and 9 from the Sharon 22 yard-line with 13.3 seconds remaining in the game, Girard converted and scored the game-winning touchdown. They added the 2-point conversion and hung on to win 22-19.
