Cincy streetcar rail delivered despite uncertainty

CINCINNATI (AP) — More rail for Cincinnati’s streetcar was delivered today despite the $133 million project’s uncertain fate.

Thirteen pieces of 80-foot-long rail sections arrived in Cincinnati’s historic Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, where construction crews began installing rail for the first time last month.

The three-ton rails are being delivered every 10 days or so to the project site.

So far, the city has spent more than $23 million for the 3.6-mile streetcar line and has obligated an additional $94 million in contracts.

Despite that, the city’s mayor-elect, John Cranley, has vowed to end the project as soon possible after he assumes office Dec. 1.

Cranley says the streetcar is just too expensive, while supporters say it will spur new development and attract more visitors to the area.
