Background
The founder of BattleSaint, a military mother, created the project to honor family members and other Americans enlisted in the U.S. armed forces. She designed bracelets with pictures of saints who had ties to the military. The project now includes cotton scarves that are worn to give protection from sun and sand storms.
At Blessed Sacrament Church: Pat Campbell, director of music and worship, learned about the project and introduced it to the church in anticipation of Veterans Day. The church has sold bracelets and scarves, which are still available. Call Campbell at the church, 330-372-2215.
Proceeds: A portion of the proceeds is donated to the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to military families and built the Center for the Intrepid in San Antonio, Texas, which is a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center for injured military personnel.
Saints on the bracelet: Among saints pictured on the bracelet are St. Barbara, patron saint of artillerymen, military engineers and demolition experts; St. Michael the Archangel, patron of fighter pilots and paratroopers; St. Anthony of Padua, patron of amputees, travelers and sailors; St. Christopher, patron saint of travelers; and Joan of Arc, patron of soldiers, prisoners and Women’s Army Corps. The Battle Saint logo, a star, also is on bracelets.
