VOLANT, Pa.
A 48-year-old man died after being buried when a trench wall collapsed on him outside his home Friday afternoon. Pennsylvania State Police identified the victim, who had entered the 9- to 10-foot-deep trench, as Raymond James Davis of 874 Plain Grove Road. When the 3:20 p.m. collapse occurred, the victim and a family member were excavating the trench for a septic system. The family member tried unsuccessfully to rescue Davis, who was extricated by several fire departments and pronounced dead at the scene.

Fracking film

The Ohio Organizing Collaborative will offer a screening of a film about hydraulic fracturing called “Triple Divide” at 6 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Raymond John Wean Foundation offices, 147 W. Market St.
The 90-minute film attempts to answer the question “How are state regulations and industry handling the impacts of hydraulic fracturing?”
“Trumbull County is one of the most densely populated areas experiencing the shale drilling boom,” said Caitlin Johnson, organizer for Communities United for Responsible Energy. “If Ohio experiences any of the problems Pennsylvania has, they could be felt most intensely in Trumbull County.”
Class on GPS

Munnell Run Farm will offer an introductory class on GPS units and Geocaching, a quickly growing technological scavenger hunt, from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 23 at the Munnell Run Farm pig barn, 753 Greenville Road. Anyone who wants to be more aware of direction and participate in a physical activity that utilizes advancements in technology is welcome to register.
The cost of the program is $5 and will include a history of GPS, handheld units to aid learning, a Geocaching introduction and time in the field.
