Chick-Fil-A Restaurant, 1051 Boardman Poland Road, will host a special collection day from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday with Operation Christmas Child, a project that sends millions of gift-filled shoeboxes to needy children overseas.
Participants are asked to drop off a shoebox filled with small items such as school supplies, toys and hygiene items; those who donate during the designated time will receive a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich.
After Thursday, participants are urged to supply additional shoebox gifts to many area drop-off centers during National Collection Week, Nov. 18 to 25. Safe-driving grant
FOWLER
Fowler Township Police Department has received a $65,000 grant from the Ohio Department of Public Safety’s Ohio Traffic Safety Office. The department will use the funds for education on traffic safety, distracted driving and sober driving. The money will be channeled to the Trumbull County Safe Communities organization.
Help a child

Chef Matt of Yolo Grille and Wine Bar, 5231 S. Canfield-Niles Road, is preparing hors d’oeuvres from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and dinner at 8 p.m. Monday to benefit a Mission of Love project to Guatemala City, Guatemala. There is a cash bar and admission is $50 per person. Entertainment is by guitarist Julius Veal.
Donations will help with the transportation costs of trucks to take 54,000 pounds (18 Air Force pallets) of supplies from the Mission of Love warehouse to the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna.
The supplies will be flown by the 910th on Nov. 26 to the House of Dreams, Children’s Hospice and Metropolitan Hospital, for children who will be having cleft lip/palate surgeries in January.

Carry-out robbed
YOUNGSTOWN
Police arrested two men in the robbery the Schenley Carry-out, 2725 Mahoning Ave., Thursday, according to Vindicator broadcast partner 21 WFMJ-TV.
Timothy Fulton and Charles Bulatko were arrested originally by Mill Creek MetroParks police after the duo threatened a woman with a gun.
Police then found a gun that matched the one used in the robbery in their vehicle, as well as pills and marijuana.
Surveillance video from the robbery showed the faces of the suspects before they put on masks, according to police.
