Jury begins deliberations in Utah doctor’s trial
PROVO, Utah (AP) — The jury has begun deliberations in a trial of Utah doctor charged with murder in the death of his wife.
Closing arguments finished early this afternoon in a Provo courtroom, ending an emotional three-week trial that featured testimony from mistresses, prison snitches and daughters of the disgraced physician.
Prosecutors argued that there’s a mountain of circumstantial evidence showing Martin MacNeill pestered his wife to get a face lift, then drugged and drowned her in a bathtub to start a new life with a mistress.
Defense lawyers countered that the prosecution has cherry-picked evidence in a case full of reasonable doubt. They say Michele MacNeill died in 2007 as a result of her many medical complications.
The cause of death was undetermined.
