I-680 ramp reopens

BOARDMAN

The Interstate 680 southbound exit ramp to U.S. Route 224 westbound has reopened.

According to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, crews have almost completed construction work in that area, which began in mid-August. Tiffany Boulevard remains closed for pavement reconstruction, but could be finished by late Friday.

The work is part of a $5.4 million project to widen the U.S. Route 224 bridge over I-680 and improve the I-680/U.S. Route 224 interchange. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by late October 2014.

Girard man charged

YOUNGSTOWN

Police arrested a 36-year-old Girard man after finding drugs and drug-abuse instruments — suspected heroin and syringes — on him and in the laundry room where he was found lying unresponsive on the floor.

Officers arrived at 2639 Tyrell St. shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday, and the man — identified as Leo Petrosky — awoke shortly afterward. An ambulance had arrived before police and gave Petrosky a narcotic that can reverse the effects of other narcotics.

In all, police found a small chunk of suspected heroin in a red bottle cap, along with one used syringe and 10 unused syringes. Petrosky was transported to St. Elizabeth Health Center, and was charged with possession of drugs and drug-abuse instruments.
