Canfield Players Drama Club has announced their fall musical, “The Music Man,” to run November 14, 15, and 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.

An affectionate homage to Smalltown, U.S.A., of a bygone era, Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man” follows fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band he vows to organize - this despite the fact he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain’s fall.

This award-winning, critically acclaimed Broadway classic is an all-American institution, thanks to its quirky characters, charmingly predictable dramatic situations, and one-of-a-kind, nostalgic score of rousing marches, barbershop quartets and sentimental ballads which have become popular standards.

The cast features students from Canfield High School, C.V.M.S. and Hilltop elementary. Featured in the show as Harold Hill and Marian Paroo are seniors Drew Bennett and Lindsay Stevens. Other leads include Megan Factor as Mrs. Paroo, Richie Jenkins as Marcellus, Zack Davison as Mayor Shinn, Rosie Bresson as Eulalie Shinn, Chris Halley as Tommy, Amy Goddard as Zanetta, Jonathan Palermo as Charlie Cowell, Maddy Angelo as Amaryllis and Evan Williams as Winthrop. Featured in the barbershop quartet will be Hilltop music teacher Tom Scurich, retired science teacher Larry Davis, choreographer Tom Porter and current high school student Landon Herock. The show is directed by Becky Heikkinen, with musical direction by Kelly Scurich.

“The eighty students in the cast and the adult members of the Drama Booster organization have worked very hard to create a wonderful piece of entertainment, featuring beautiful costumes, impressive sets, and big dance numbers,” said Heikkinen. “A special feature for the Friday and Saturday performances will include an appearance by the Canfield High School Symphonic Band.”

Adult tickets are $12 and student tickets are $10. Senior citizens may enjoy a special discount for the Nov. 14 performance, where their tickets will be $10. Reservations may be made by calling the ticket line at 330-702-7128. Tickets will also be available at the door every night.

Additionally, the Canfield Drama Boosters will host a community fundraiser Nov. 16 at the Canfield Bob Evans, located at 4545 Boardman Canfield Road, in which 15 percent of the day’s sales will be donated to the Canfield Drama program. Patrons may stop by any time between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. for any meal or snack, however, they must have a Canfield flyer, which may be found at Canfield High School or from any Drama student.
