A list of public services, ceremonies and other events for Veterans Day as submitted to The Vindicator.

TRUMBULL

Girard: Veterans Day services will begin at 5:30 p.m. Monday with a parade starting at Broadway and Market Streets at 6 p.m. The parade will march south on Market to Liberty Street, and head west on Liberty to the Girard Viaduct. At the viaduct, a short service will take place, and a wreath will be thrown by the Army Navy Garrison 422 Ladies Auxiliary President. The Girard High School Band will perform, and the Girard Veterans Council Honor Guard will give a rifle salute with the playing of taps. The parade will re-form and march east on Liberty to High Street, north on High to Main and east on Main to the War Memorial. At the memorial, Boy Scout Troop 40 will raise the flag, a wreath will be placed by a representative of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 235. The band will perform, as well as a second rifle salute with the playing of taps. Mayor James Melfi will speak with Rev. Rhonda Gallagher of First Lutheran Church giving the invocations and benedictions at both the bridge and memorial.

Niles: Niles American Legion Post 106 will have an 11 a.m. Monday ceremony at Niles Union Cemetery, intersection of state Route 46 and Niles-Vienna Road. The ceremony will honor all branches of military service. The Niles McKinley High School band will play taps, and Army-Navy Garrison 252 will perform a 21-gun salute. The legion commander will share a few words.

Warren: The W.D. Packard Concert Band will host a Veterans Day Remembrance Concert with guest conductor Loras John Schissel at 3 p.m. Sunday in W.D. Packard Music Hall, 1703 Mahoning Ave. NW. For information, call 330-841-2619 or visit www.wdpackardband.com.

MAHONING

Beaver: The township will host a Veterans Day program 1 p.m. Saturday at the veterans memorial at the intersection of state Routes 164 and 165. Retired Navy Vice Adm. John LaPlante will speak. In case of inclement weather, the program will be moved to the township fire station, 601 W. South Range Road.

Lowellville: American Legion Lowellville Post 247 will host a Veterans Day dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday on the second floor of city hall, 140 E. Liberty St. All veterans are invited to attend; make a reservation by calling 330-536-6575. County American Legion commander Rod Hosler will speak and present an award. Sgt. Tech. Vince Bellanca will receive the Knight of the French Legion of Honor. The medal was sent to him by the government of France 69 years after serving 144 days of continuous combat in Northern France. Bellanca landed in Cherbourg, France, and his unit continued all the way to Heidelburg and Manheim.

North Jackson: Jackson-Milton High School, 10748 Mahoning Ave., will host a Veterans Day program at 9 a.m. Monday in the high/middle school cafetorium. Speakers will be Master Sgt. Geoff Clark from the Youngstown Air Reserve Station in Vienna and U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson of Marietta, R-6th. Refreshments will be provided for veterans in attendance after the program.

Struthers: Struthers City Schools will host a Veterans Day ceremony 11 a.m. Monday at the Struthers Veterans Memorial, at the corner of Morrison and Euclid. Guest speaker will be retired Army Lt. Col. Roderick A. Hosler. The high-school band will perform during the service.

Struthers: Becker Funeral Homes and Struthers AMVETS will sponsor a Veterans Workshop and Health Fair on Saturday at Struthers AMVETS Post 44, 305 Elm St. The event will be 10 a.m. to noon, with a continental breakfast offered at 9:30 a.m. Veterans benefits, veterans burial benefits, widows benefits, AMVETS benefits and preplan funeral arrangements will be discussed. Youngstown: Cardinal Mooney High School, 2545 Erie St., will host a Veterans Day assembly 2 p.m. Monday in the school gymnasium. Marine Sgt. Tod Schuller, a 2005 Mooney graduate and Afghanistan War veteran, will speak. All veterans, Mooney alumni, parents and friends are welcome. For information, call the alumni office at 330-788-5113.

Youngstown: The 15th annual Forgotten Heroes Program, in honor of Veterans Day, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Tod Cemetery, 2200 Belmont Ave. Contact Steffon Wydell Jones at 330-259-2091 for further details.

Youngstown: The United Veterans Council of Greater Youngstown will conduct a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mahoning County Courthouse, 120 Market St. Guest speaker will be Jennifer Braun, Navy Waves Unit #21 president, to celebrate 2013 as the year of military women. Youngstown: Students at St. Joseph the Provider School will honor veterans with a musical tribute to the armed services at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1125 Turin Ave. Songs featured will include “It’s A Beautiful Land We Share” and “You’re A Grand Old Flag.” State Sen. Joe Schiavoni of Boardman, D-33rd, will make a presentation. A reception will follow the program. All are welcome. Youngstown: The American Legion George Washington Carver Post #504, 2225 Glenwood Ave., will host a Veterans Day program at 5 p.m. Monday. Youngstown City Council president Jamael Tito Brown will be guest speaker. The event will honor Fran Jeffries and Phyllis Young, past and present Post #504 Women’s Auxiliary presidents. Dinner will be served.

Youngstown: Youngstown Christian School, 4401 Southern Blvd., will host its second annual Veterans Day program from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Monday in the high-school gymnasium. Students from grades K-12 will attend the 30-minute program to learn about the service and sacrifice of veterans. Sgt. Maj. John Williams will speak. Williams is a 1989 graduate of North Bloomfield High School in North Bloomfield Ohio, and a graduate of Malone University and the Army Sergeants Major Academy. His 24 years of military service include deployments in Operation Desert Shield/Storm, Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). Williams works for the Defense Contract Management Agency and lives in South Amherst, Ohio, with his wife and three children.

COLUMBIANA

Leetonia: The Leetonia Community Public Library, 181 Walnut St., will host a program to honor Veterans Day at 4 p.m. Saturday. Peter Fraser, author of the books “Vietnam and Other Heartaches” and “Tapestry,” will present.

Salem: In recognition of Veterans Day, the Salem Historical Society will host a 7 p.m. Tuesday program featuring “Medal of Honor recipients of Columbiana County” in the Dale Shaffer Library meeting room, 239 S. Lundy Ave. Military history enthusiast Derek Coffee, a descendant of congressman and Civil War hero Gen. John Coffee, will display individual citations, grave site photos, qualifications to receive the medal and information regarding the Columbiana medal recipients. Coffee has memberships with the Salem Historical Society, Winona Area Historical Society, where he serves as president, 398th Bomb Group Association, and is a lifetime member of NRA.
