Ohio Secretary of State honors Youngstown poll worker

YOUNGSTOWN

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted honored four precinct election officials, including a Youngstown poll worker, with “Red Carpet Awards” for their dedication to running good elections.

Among the winners is Madelyn Damiano, a Democrat from Youngstown, who became a precinct election official in 1961. She worked as a presiding judge for decades and continues to be a poll worker. Damiano has only called off once during her 52 years of service.

Upon taking office in January 2011, Husted instituted the “Red Carpet Award” in an effort to recognize the service and dedication of poll workers throughout Ohio. Awardees are nominated by boards of election and chosen annually by the secretary of state’s office.
