Cause of boy’s death is ‘pending’
WARREN
The Trumbull County Coroner’s office has ruled the cause and manner of death for a 7-year-old boy found unresponsive in his High Street home in Howland “pending,” but it’s unlikely he died from abuse.
“There is a low index of suspicion for abuse,” Dr. Humphrey Germaniuk, coroner, said of the death of Cormaree Floyd.
A final cause and manner of death is pending further testing, such as toxicology and tissue analysis, and should be available in 30 to 45 days.
The boy had an “extensive medical history,” Dr. Germaniuk said.
The boy’s father, Corey Floyd, called 911 at 5:39 a.m. Friday, saying the boy was not breathing and may have suffered a seizure.
Corey Floyd was performing CPR on the boy as ambulance workers arrived. He was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Health Center.
School probe

The mother of a city school student told police that the school principal caused her son’s head to strike a hallway wall.
The woman said the boy was hugging another student at school Oct. 28 when the principal forcibly separated them. When he wouldn’t look at the principal, he was pushed back, his head striking the wall, the police report said.
The mother took her son to Akron Children’s Hospital in Boardman on Oct. 30 and was told that he has a mild concussion. Superintendent Connie Hathorn said the district is investigating, and the incident was assigned to the police department’s juvenile division, according to the report.
