Bondsman wants former Ohio doctor's bail revoked

DELAWARE, Ohio (AP) — A bondsman wants a judge to revoke $1 million in bail set for a former Ohio doctor who pleaded guilty to killing a pregnant woman who had answered a Craigslist ad.

The bond company’s lawyer says Ali Salim is more likely to flee after his conviction last month in the heroin overdose death of Deanna Ballman, whose unborn daughter also died.

Atty. Paul Aucoin also said in a filing Monday in Delaware County court that Salim has refused stricter conditions for house arrest, including surrendering the keys to his car. Aucoin asked that those tougher conditions be imposed if the request to revoke bond is denied.

Salim’s attorney is opposing the request, which he calls absurd.

The former doctor faces 37 years in prison at his Dec. 20 sentencing.
