Bridges to be replaced

COLUMBUS

Ohio will invest $120 million to repair and replace more than 200 county and city-owned bridges over the next three years, Gov. John Kasich announced.

The funds are available because overhead costs have been reduced and efficiency improved at the Ohio Department of Transportation, the governor said.

Work is expected to begin on the first 40 bridges next year. ODOT will work with local officials to identify the remaining bridges to repair or replace in the following years.

Bridges will be selected based on factors including safety and importance to local jobs creation.

Suspicious fire

WARREN

The same shift at the Warren Fire Department fought the second of two suspicious house fire in 24 hours Friday morning, responding to a fire at 2598 Draper Street SE at 4:33 a.m. Firefighters were on the scene nearly two hours.

The home was empty at the time of the fire, but the owner, John Peterson, had been renovating the inside, Warren Fire Chief Ken Nussle said.

The single-story home sustained a significant amount of damage to the living room and kitchen, where it apparently started. Damage estimate is $18,000.

The investigation is continuing.

Nussle said he doesn’t believe there is any connection between this fire and one at 10:37 a.m. Thursday at 855 Front St. SW that is also suspicious. It caused $20,000 damage.
