Police, other agencies investigate death of 7-year-old Howland boy
Staff report
HOWLAND
Township police and other agencies are investigating the death of a 7-year-old High Street boy early Friday.
“It hasn’t been ruled a homicide or an accidental death, but we’re looking into the nature of the cause of death,” said Paul Monroe, Howland police chief.
The boy’s name is not being released.
The father, Corey Floyd, called 911 at 5:39 a.m., saying the boy was not breathing and may have suffered a seizure. Floyd was performing CPR on the boy when police and ambulance workers arrived.
He was pronounced dead later at St. Joseph Health Center.
The Trumbull County Coroner’s Office said late Friday the cause of death is pending further investigation and test results.
Police are joined by the county Children Services Board and county Child Investigative Unit in the investigation.
Floyd and his wife, Pamela McIntosh, have seven children ranging in age from 2 to 17. Their home, at 8454 High St, is about 200 yards east of the Howland Police Station.
Police have been called to the home 25 times since 2010, according to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV.
Monroe said of some of the previous calls, there have been “some issues with the children in the past.”
The parents were unwilling to give permission for investigators to search the home for evidence until police obtained a search warrant in the early afternoon, Monroe said.
Family members “whisked away” the six other children just after police arrived at the house, so police were still attempting to talk to them Friday afternoon, Monroe said.
Monroe said the 7-year-old has had some previous health issues, but he would not comment on whether the child had any obvious signs of injury.
