SR-170 sidewalk project put out to bid

The Poland Township Board of Trustees had a special meeting last week to put the long awaited sidewalk project along SR-170 out for bid.

The $500,000 federally funded project provides for the construction of a sidewalk along the Eastern side of SR-170 from the Poland Village line (just south of Nesbit Dr) out to Dobbins Road.

“We had hoped that the project would be completed by this time. However, due to unforeseen delays with the Ohio Department of Transportation and the unfortunate federal government shut down we just now were able to bid the project out to contractors,” said Robert Lidle, Poland Township Trustee Chairman.

It is now in the hands of mother nature as to when the project will be completed, but for now the Trustees are glad that it is finally entirely in their hands and not any other governmental agency.

It is the hope of the Board of Trustees and the groups that supported this project, such as the school board, Poland Village and Streetscapes that this will bring the community closer.

Due to the truck and automobile traffic on SR-170 many people who would like to, are hesitant to walk to the high school or to the village depending upon where they live. This now makes walking along that main road a safer environment.

“I would like to give special thanks to all who contributed to the securing of this grant. It wasn’t easy and it took a while, however with the help of the different organizations involved and other individuals our community just became a little smaller and a lot safer,” said Lidle.
