Boardman Fire Department responded to a fire at a telephone pole that left wires hanging just before 9 p.m. Thursday on Mathews Road.

The cause of the blaze is unknown, but the pole was burned all the way through, which caused the top of it to fall and leave wires exposed, according to the fire department.

A police cruiser was called to help direct traffic by the intersection, at Sheridan The fire occurred east of the intersection.

Trumbull Head Start gets $3.1 million grant

The Trumbull Community Action Program was awarded a $3.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to help operate its Head Start program in Warren.

“Head Start has always provided necessary social services including nutrition and wellness programs for low-income children,” said U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan of Howland, D-13th, who announced the grant Thursday. “These funds will continue these necessary services that enhance their cognitive, social and emotional development.”

‘Deals for Your Wheels’

Mahoning County Child Support Enforcement Agency is offering an opportunity to reinstate suspended driver’s licenses for a one-month payment plus $1 on the arrears and an agreement to seek employment if the individual is not working.

This “Deals for Your Wheels” offer is good through Nov. 30, to recognize November as Child Support Awareness Month.

Absent parents with a suspended license who wish to participate in the offer are asked to visit Oakhill Renaissance Place, 345 Oak Hill Ave., between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.

A one-month payment and $1 will earn a reinstatement form from the agency. That form, along with a $25 reinstatement fee, can be presented at the Bureau of Motor Vehicle Regional Reinstatement Center to earn license reinstatement.
