Ohio man imprisoned for stealing ID to get care

COLUMBUS (AP) — A man who authorities said used a stolen identity to get more than $400,000 in medical treatment from an Ohio State University hospital has been sentenced to three years prison.

Kenneth A. Marshall, 41, posed as a South Carolina man for five years in seeking care from Ohio State’s Wexner Medical Center and its clinics, authorities said.

Marshall said he did it to get better care for his ailments, which he said includes multiple sclerosis, according to The Columbus Dispatch. He was sentenced Thursday in Columbus.

Marshall said that when he went to a hospital as himself, “They would just give me a few pills and discharge me.”

“I just said, ‘I’ll try something else,’ and I did,” he said. “It seemed like they really started doing stuff and came up with a diagnosis.”

But even his attorney said the crime didn’t make much sense.
