The Poland 120 pound Little Bulldogs left it all out on the field in a spectacular win over the Canfield Little Cardinals in the Youth Athletic Conference (YAC) Super Bowl Oct. 27.
The Little Bulldogs came out strong, earning the first points of the game with an 8-0 lead against the Little Cardinals. Dominic Parker ran the ball in for the touchdown, while Andrew Centofanti finished the job with an amazing effort to earn the extra points. Late in the second quarter the Little Cardinals started putting the pressure on, but the Little Bulldogs were able to hold on to their 8-0 lead going into halftime. Early in the second half, the Little Cardinals were able to get some points on the board, but the Little Bulldog’s defense stood strong and stopped the two-point conversion, making the score 8-6.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Little Bulldogs came up with a crucial first down on a fourth and three with a pass from quarterback Brody Todd to Mason Gentile. From there, the Little Bulldogs would go on to score again with Dominic Parker getting another touchdown and the extra points after. The Little Bulldogs secured their victory with a 16-6 win over the Little Cardinals.
The Little Bulldogs had an amazing season led by head coach Deric Madick and assistant coaches Mike Gordon, Harry Campbell, Joe Weimer, Bill Chipps, Bob Francis and Mike Gentile. The team finished its season 6-1, with its only loss to the Austintown Colts in week 5. The Little Bulldogs went on to defeat the Hickory Hornets in the first round of the playoffs and the Austintown Colts the next week to earn their spot in the Super Bowl.
