Warren woman faces charges of OVI, child endangering

WARREN

A 24-year-old Wick Street Southeast woman is charged with operating a motor vehicle impaired and two counts of child endangering after police found her passed out in her car at the Pit Stop gas station, 1708 Youngstown Road SE, early Thursday.

Kayla M. Pennell refused to take field sobriety tests or a blood-alcohol test after police woke her up at around 1 a.m. Police smelled alcohol coming from Pennell, and she had trouble walking, they said.

Two children, age 2 and 3, were seated in the back seat of the car when police arrived. A witness observed Pennell in the car, with the car in park and the engine running, police said.

School bus struck by car in Lowellville

A Lowellville school bus full of students traveling east on Western Reserve Road in Beaver Township was struck by a Chevrolet Cavalier just before 3 p.m. Thursday.

A trooper from the Ohio State Highway Patrol cited the man driving the Cavalier for operating a vehicle while impaired. Sgt. Michael Wilson of the patrol administered an OVI test to determine the man’s blood-alcohol content. No one on the bus was injured; other details were not available late Thursday.

Heroin, meth found in Salem drug raid

Several police agencies served a search warrant at a 455 S. Broadway St. home Thursday.

At the home, officers removed heroin, methamphetamine, chemicals used to make methamphetamine and a rifle. John Stoffer, 50, who lives in the home, was arrested on a warrant as well as for the charge of possession of chemicals to produce methamphetamine, a second degree felony.

Taking part in the raid was the Columbiana County Drug Task Force with help from the Salem Police Department, Columbiana County Special Response Team, Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Enforcement Administration.

Car strikes bicyclist in Neshannock Twp.

NESHANNOCK, Pa.

Township police say a bicyclist was treated at Jameson Memorial Hospital after being in an accident with a car early Thursday morning.

A news release from the department said that Jill Allison, 35, of Lilac Drive in New Castle, was northbound on Wilmington Road about 5:45 a.m. when a southbound pick- up truck driven by 75-year-old Richard Parry of Sankey Lane in New Castle turned from the center turning lane into the path of Allison and collided with her bicycle.

Parry will be cited for careless driving, police said.

St. Joe’s sponsors farmers market

St. Joseph Health Center, in collaboration with Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, will have a farmers market from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Courthouse Square in downtown Warren.

Local farmers will be on hand to sell their produce.
