A 24-year-old Meadowbrook Avenue Southeast man, who was freed earlier this year after going to prison three years on a gun charge, was arrested Thursday afternoon on new gun charges.

Carl D. Washington was charged Thursday with carrying a concealed weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm after police found a loaded handgun in the glove compartment of a car connected to him.

Police said they found the gun after being called to the Circle K, 606 North Park Ave., at 4:15 p.m. for a man with a gun.

If convicted, Washington could spend five years in prison.

In August 2010, Washington was sentenced in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to three years in prison after being convicted of felonious assault, aggravated burglary and tampering with evidence for a January incident in which he fired a gun toward a Washington Street Northeast man in an attempt to scare him.

The victim told police he became involved when he saw three young men hanging out near his home who appeared to be selling drugs and followed them to take their picture.

Washington, one of the three men, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim’s belly, then fired it just past him and fled on foot.

The victim helped police locate Washington, who was found a short time later inside a nearby house.

Washington was released from prison in January.
