Children needed for roles in play

BOARDMAN

The Garage Theater will have auditions for “A Little Mermaid Jr.” from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Garage Theater, 7206 Market St. (at rear of the Odyssey Building). Children in grades 3 to 9 will be asked to read from the script and sing a short song they prepare. A CD player will be provided. All roles are available. There is a participation fee for cast members. Rehearsals will be June 10-28 with shows June 28-30.

Slavic festival seeks volunteers, bakers

YOUNGSTOWN

Volunteers are needed for the third annual Simply Slavic festival, which will be June 15 on East Federal Street, downtown. Help is needed for everything from setup and takedown to ticket sales, helping with the baking contest, and assisting in cultural display and children’s areas. Various three-hour shifts are available. Every volunteer gets free admission.

The festival also is open to entries for its baked-good competition. Submit registration form (download at simplyslavic.com), $5 and a brief recipe description, highlighting information such as its Slavic roots, holidays at which it might be used and where you first ate it. Deadline is June 7.
