Toddlers, ages 2-3, heard tales at the Poland library on May 16.

“Today we’re going to hear stories all about hats, “ said Poland librarian Annette Ahrens.

The story time started off with “Where’s Mary’s Hat” by Stephane Barroux. The children listened as Mary the cow looked for her favorite hat, which had gone missing. The children helped by asking the kangaroo and the monkey where Mary’s hat went.

Next, Ahrens read “Zoe’s Hats” by Sharon Lane Holm.

“What color is Zoe’s hat?” Ahrens asked the audience.

Other stories that were read included “Peedie” by Olivier Dunrea, “12 Hats for Lena: A Book of Months” by Karen Katz, “Who’s Under That Hat?” by Sarah Weeks and “Aunt Lucy Went to Buy a Hat” by Alice Low and Laura Huliska-Beith.

Throughout the story time children also participated by saying different hat rhymes.

Ahrens tried on different hats and the children guessed who would wear the hats. Some of the hats included a cowboy’s hat, a fireman’s hat, a construction worker’s hat, a sailer’s hat and even Dr. Seuss’ Cat-in-the-Hat’s hat.

The story time concluded with a craft in which the children created their own silly hats out of paper plates.
