POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:

GIRARD

May 24

Theft: A Washington Avenue man discovered $20 missing from his jacket pocket.

Burglary: To a mobile home in the 600 block of Trumbull Court, from which an acoustic guitar and two electric guitars were taken. The loss came to $7,270.

Menacing: Two South Davis Street women said a former employer has been harassing them, most recently when they reported seeing him in a van watching their residence.

Arrest: Police arrested 31-year-old David W. Ott at his home, 50 Dearborn St., Girard, on two warrants, including a charge of failing to appear in court.

May 25

Criminal mischief: Someone in the 10 block of West Wilson Avenue intentionally flattened a vehicle’s front tire.

Theft: A man reported his $600 cellphone stolen while at a South State Street business.

Arrest: A traffic stop on U.S. Route 422 and South Randolph Avenue led to the apprehension in a nearby wooded area of Scott S. McCleery, no age given, of 736 E. Judson St., Youngstown, on a charge of resisting arrest. McCleery, who also was wanted on an Austintown warrant, led authorities on a foot pursuit, a report showed.

May 26

Burglary: To a residence in the 200 block of Church Hill Road via a second-floor window. Stolen were two 50-inch plasma TVs.

Breaking and entering: Someone forced open the front door to a home in the 100 block of West Second Street before removing an Xbox 360 system, a 55-inch plasma TV, an electronic tablet and a DVD. The loss was estimated at $1,139.

Recovered property: A brown purse was found in a yard in the 300 block of East Kline Street.

Menacing: A Trumbull Court man said another man threatened to injure the accuser after he refused to give the person a ride.

May 27

Burglary: To a residence in the 300 block of East Wilson Avenue, though police found no pry marks in the side door.

Criminal mischief: Someone tossed eggs at numerous cars near East Second and East Howard streets.

Assault: A man at a lake off U.S. Route 422 reported having been punched in the head and right arm during a disagreement regarding a job.

May 28

Menacing: A Park Avenue man told officers several males have been stalking and following him as part of an harassment pattern.

LIBERTY

May 24

Arrest: Authorities picked up 45-year-old Rhonda L. Curry, 4871 Erie St., Boardman. She was wanted on a warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Possible theft: A Girard woman reported her change purse lost or stolen while at a Belmont Avenue store.

Breaking and entering: A rear basement window and screen were removed from a vacant home in the 3200 block of Goleta Avenue, where police said it appeared someone had stolen copper piping from the basement.

Aggravated menacing: A Tibbetts-Wick Road man told police he returned home to see his next-door neighbor stomping on a piece of aluminum siding as a symbolic gesture of the neighbor’s desire to harm the accuser. The neighbor also verbally threatened the man, a report said.

May 25

Arrests: While responding to a theft at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, authorities took into custody Jamie S. Schmitt, 34, of 130 Austin Ave. NW, Warren, and Verdarell L. Lowery, 42, of 206 Logan Ave. NE, Warren. Both were wanted on warrants, though neither was charged in the theft at the time of the report.

Burglary: Occurred in the 2500 block of Fifth Avenue before a woman saw a man in dark clothing run from the home and get into a sport-utility vehicle in her driveway.

Drug paraphernalia: Officers responded to a shoplifting situation at Walmart, where they charged 35-year-old Robert L. Anderson with possession of drug paraphernalia after saying Anderson, of 412 Manchester Ave., Youngstown, voluntarily handed them a suspected crack-cocaine pipe.

Arrest: A traffic stop on Belmont Avenue resulted in 65-year-old Richard D. Ray’s arrest. The Akron man faced charges of operating a vehicle impaired and having no operator’s license.

Burglary: To a residence in the 3400 block of Ohio Trail through a rear door. Roughly 75 feet of copper piping valued at $300 was taken.

Arrest: Rasheda Lawrence, 20, of 718 Cambridge Ave., Youngstown, was taken into custody in Weathersfield Township on a Liberty warrant.

May 26

Drug paraphernalia: Police on Belmont Avenue pulled over Douglas W. Bock of 44 Brookview Ave., Cortland, and charged the 43-year-old man with possession of drug paraphernalia after saying he had a suspected crack pipe.

May 27

Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail arrested 34-year-old Summer E. Alderman, 6033 N. Park Ave., Bristolville, on a township warrant.

Arrest: Authorities in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue picked up David B. Busse of 73 Whitman Lane, Liberty. Busse, 29, was wanted on township warrants charging receiving stolen property and theft, a felony and a misdemeanor, respectively.
