The Warren YWCA has named Kenya A. Roberts-Howard interim executive director as it opens a search to replace Shari Harrell.
Harrell was announced this week as the new president of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley and will leave the YWCA post in July.
Roberts-Howard has been the YWCA’s associate executive director since January 2013. Previously, she was senior program coordinator at the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp.
The transition occurs as the YWCA nears construction on a $2.1 million apartment complex at its facility on North Park Avenue just north of downtown. The project involves creation of 12 new apartments, intended for homeless women and children.
“We are changing the face of the YWCA,” said Traci Miller, a member of the YWCA Board of Directors. “Now we’ll have the opportunity to drive those changes with a new director. We are fortunate to have such a strong staff team in place with incredible leadership to ease this transition.”
Harrell has been executive director at the YWCA since 2007.
