Police say a man drove himself to St. Elizabeth Health Center on Tuesday afternoon after he was shot in both arms.

Police Lt. Douglas Bobovnyik said the man told detectives he was driving home from work when two men ambushed him in the 700 block of Pasadena Avenue about 1:40 p.m. Ceaonnie Jones, 23, of East Ravenwood Avenue, was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, police report.

Police promotions

YOUNGSTOWN

The police department promoted four officers Tuesday in a ceremony in city council chambers.

Promoted from lieutenant to captain was Jason Simon, who has been with the department since Nov. 17, 2000.

Promoted from detective sergeant to lieutenant was Frank Rutherford, one of the department’s K9 officers. He has been an officer since Aug. 25, 2000.

Promoted from patrolman to detective sergeant was Curt Hileman and Ronald Barber. Hileman has been on the force since June 15, 2001 and Barber has been on the force since Dec. 29, 1977.

Firefighters banquet

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Association of Black Professional Firefighters will host a 20th anniversary banquet at 7 p.m. Friday at the Regency House, 3704 Mahoning Ave.

The program will include recognition of Jesse Carter, Youngstown’s first African-American firefighter. The Sharyl E. Frasier-Everett Memorial Scholarships will also be awarded; Frasier-Everett was Youngstown’s first female firefighter.

Monthly meeting set

The Brownlee Woods Neighborhood Association will have its monthly meeting Thursday at Faith Community Church, 1919 E. Midlothian Blvd. The business meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Speaker will be William Baun, principal at Paul C. Bunn School. Councilman John R. Swierz, D-7th, will also discuss neighborhood issues.

Arts forum planned

WARREN

The role of the arts in thriving communities will be explored at a discussion from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the Raymond John Wean Foundation offices, 147 W. Market St.

Participants include Robb Hankins, a Canton arts official; and Bryan DePoy, dean of Youngstown State University College of Fine and Performing Arts.

Farmers markets

Farmers’ markets are planned for St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown and on Courthouse Square in downtown Warren.

The Courthouse Square markets are sponsored by St. Joseph Health Center in collaboration with the Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership. They will be 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Friday, as well as June 21, July 19, Aug. 16, Sept. 20 and Oct. 18.

The Lake-to-River Food Cooperative is partnering with Humility of Mary Health Partners to sell fresh produce at both locations.

Events at St. Elizabeth Health Center will be in the second floor private dining rooms June 28, July 26, Aug. 23, Sept. 27 and Oct. 25.
