Two nabbed for drugs on Old Furnace Road

Two people were arrested on drug charges over the holiday weekend on Old Furnace Road.

About 5:36 p.m. Monday, police pulled over a car driven by Johnta Lincoln, 28, of Idlewood Avenue near Old Furnace and Volney roads, and the officer noticed a strong odor of marijuana, reports said.

The man also had a bulge in his pants and at first said he had nothing in his pants. He then said he “messed” his pants and asked to be taken to the Mahoning County jail so he could prove it, reports said.

Police instead searched him and found $858 in cash and small amounts of crack cocaine and marijuana.

He was arrested on charges of possession of crack cocaine and possession of marijuana. He is in the jail on $25,000 bond after his arraignment in municipal court Tuesday. He d has a preliminary hearing Monday.

At 6:15 p.m. Sunday, James Rodriguez, 23, of South Osborn Avenue, was pulled over for speeding in the 1800 block of Old Furnace Road, and officers also smelled marijuana in his car.

They searched it and found three bags of marijuana in a pink backpack in the back seat, reports said.

Police also found a digital scale in his car. He was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a summons, and his initial court appearance is set for today.
