UPDATE | Two die in collision on state Route 534 near Berlin Center

BERLIN CENTER — The driver and passenger trapped in a Ryder rental truck died at the scene of a fiery Monday night collision with a tractor trailer truck on state Route 534, and the tractor trailer truck driver was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

The deceased have not been identified, the patrol said.

The tractor trailer truck driver was identified as Mark Hoskins, 54, of Alliance, who was listed in fair condition.

The crash occurred at 11:07 p.m. between Leffingwell and Western Reserve roads, the patrol said.

The southbound straight truck went off the right side of the road, overcorrected, and went left of center, hitting the northbound tractor trailer truck head-on, the patrol said. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames.

State Route 534 remains closed this morning between Leffingwell Road and state Route 14.
