Dr. Lawrence A. DiDomenico, managing partner of Ankle & Foot Care Centers, presented a lecture at the Save A Leg, Save A Life (SALSAL) Foundation’s national conference this month in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The topic of Dr. DiDomenico’s lecture was working with interventionalists in planning surgery. He and his partner, Dr. Gregory Blasko, are cofounders of the Youngstown SALSAL chapter.

SALSAL’s goal is to reduce the number of lower extremity amputations and to improve the quality of life for people afflicted with wounds and complications of diabetes and peripheral arterial disease.

Candlelight vigil

As part of its Nurses Week celebration, Humility of Mary Health Partners’ hospital nurses conducted a candlelight vigil May 17 in the Healing Garden of St. Joseph Health Center, 667 Eastland Ave.

Nurses from St. Elizabeth Health Center, St. Joseph Health Center and St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center attended the event. Proceeds from an event raffle benefited Emmanuel Community Care Center in Girard, a Sisters of the Humility of Mary’s housing ministry. The vigil included a candlelight ceremony and tributes to the nurses, including the “Nurse’s Prayer.”

McDonald donation

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mahoning Valley & Western Pa. recently donated $1,000 to Camp Challenge, a D&E Counseling Center facility.

The grant will be used to purchase toys, clothes, sporting goods and books for the D&E’s summer Intensive Outpatient Program. Children involved in the program earn reward points for positive behaviors and redeem them to purchase items from the “Good Behavior Store.

Accepting patients

A cardiologist from the UPMC Heart and Vascular Institute, Dr. Michael A. Mathier, has established an advanced heart-failure clinic at UPMC Horizon that operates once a month.
