Veterans recognized MEMORIALIZING VOLUNTEERS

Across the broad horizon of Pineview Memorial Park are hundreds of starred and striped flags waving in the breeze. One by one, volunteers dedicated a single flag to each fallen veteran in the Warren community cemetery as a symbol of their sacrifice, commemorated on Memorial Day.

About three dozen people gathered at the Pineview Memorial Park Chapel clad in boots and gloves, prepared for a hot, busy morning. Wagons loaded to the brim with delicately wrapped flags and buckets full of veteran plaques were wheeled in. Volunteers were divided into groups and each group was given a map as a guideline around the massive park. They all went their separate ways, showing their respect to the fallen soldiers, each with their own different reasons.

Though many Americans spend every day honoring our soldiers home and abroad, Memorial Day is specifically for those who have fallen. This Memorial Day, remember those who merit the honor and reflect on the tradition that being a soldier represents today.
