Brooklyn Bridge closed because of abandoned car

NEW YORK (AP) — Police say the Brooklyn Bridge is closed while they investigate an abandoned car.

Traffic in both directions was halted around 6 p.m. today. The New York Police Department says the car is about midway along the Manhattan-bound side of the span.

The bomb squad and other investigators headed to the area to check out the vehicle. No further information was immediately available.

The closing came near the end of the Memorial Day weekend. Traffic was backed up on nearby roadways near the bridge.
