Poland boys, girls place second in Salem

Poland’s Bryan Partika and Aaron King finished 1-2 in the 300-meter hurdles and King helped the Bulldogs place first in the 4x400 relay to finish second in the team standings behind Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary at Saturday’s Division II district track and field meet at Reilly Stadium.

Poland’s girls also placed second behind SVSM as the Bulldogs combined to qualify 17 athletes for next week’s regional meet in Bedford.

Salem’s Caleb Quinn (110 hurdles) and Anthony Shivers (shot put) won individual events as the Quakers placed fourth. West Branch was third, led by Tyler Ware (800) and Zach Robbins (high jump), who were runners-up in those events.

Arnoldo Morales was the area’s only other district champion, winning the high jump with a leap of 6-foot-4. He also finished third in the 200 and helped the Wildcats place second in the 4x200 relay.

Sage Spotleson placed second in the 100 hurdles and helped the Bulldog girls advance in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays. Sisters Michelle and McKinsie Klim finished 2-3 in the 3200.

Salem’s Ciera Trybend won the discus as the Quakers placed fourth in the team standings. Salem also advanced its 4x100 and 4x200 relays.

Division III

INDEPENDENCE

Senior Wyatt Hartman placed second in the 800 and 1600 and helped the Rockets place second in the 4x400 relay as the Rockets shared the district title with Gilmour Academy at Friday’s Division III meet.

Rockets Solomon Yoder (300 hurdles) and Stephen Pop (shot put) won individual titles.

On the girls side, Badger’s Leah Blaney and Jennilyn Krumpe placed 1-2 in the long jump to help the Braves place an area-best third behind Gilmour Academy and Garfield Heights Trinity.
