Employee killed at Lowe’s store

NEW CASTLE, PA.

A Lowe’s employee in Lawrence County has died from an accident at the business Friday evening.

According to The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, 21 WFMJ-TV, Union Township police say the accident happened when two employees were unloading appliances from a Lowe’s box truck into a semi-trailer.

The box truck backed into the trailer, crushing a man who was in his 30s.

He was pronounced dead at the hospital. His name has not been released. The other worker was not injured.

Man listed in stable condition after shooting in city

YOUNGSTOWN

Police reports still list a city man as in stable condition after a shooting on the city’s South Side that left his car riddled with bullets.

Salvador Battles, 23, of Youngstown, told police he was driving in the area of South Avenue and Avondale shortly after 9 p.m. Friday when a four-door white car drove past and opened fire on his car. Police counted 13 bullet holes in the car.

Officers who heard the gunfire began searching the area and found Battles wounded in the driver seat of his car in the area of Marmion and South avenues. He had been shot multiple times in the leg and in the arm.

Battles was taken to St. Elizabeth Health Center for treatment.

Presentation on historic flood

The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, will host a free illustrated presentation about the Great Easter Flood of 1913 at 2 p.m. June 4.

Guest speaker Trudy E. Bell, M.A., has been researching the Great Easter 1913 storm system, devastation and legacies since 2003 and is the author of “The Great Dayton Flood of 1913.” Through her research, she has found that the flood of March-April 1913 was the most widespread natural disaster suffered by the United States, claiming more than 1,000 lives in parts of 15 states, including Ohio.

Lyden Avenue between Stewart and Armstrong avenues will be closed from noon to 9 p.m. Monday due to a block party.

Paving project

Andrews Avenue from Commerce Street to Logan Avenue will be under construction for paving operations and minor roadway rehabilitation starting Monday for about 120 days.

Traffic will be maintained at all times, but drivers should expect intermittent lane restrictions. Drivers are urged to use caution when traveling through the construction zone.
