Presentation on great Easter flood of 1913 at Warren library

WARREN — The Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW, will host a free illustrated presentation about the Great Easter Flood of 1913 at 2 p.m. June 4.

Guest speaker Trudy E. Bell, M.A., has been researching the Great Easter 1913 storm system, devastation, and legacies since 2003 and is the author of “The Great Dayton Flood of 1913.”

Through her research, she has found that the flood of March-April 1913 was the most widespread natural disaster suffered by the United States, claiming more than 1,000 lives in parts of 15 states, including Ohio. The flood was devastating to the industrial North, destroying railroads, bridges, dams, telephone and telegraph communications, steel mills, water treatment plants, and city centers.

Bell’s research on the flood can be found as articles at www.trudyebell.com/1913flood.php, as well as her research blog “’Our National Calamity’: The Great Easter 1913 Flood” at www.nationalcalamityeaster1913flood.blogspot.com.

The program at the library is free and open to the public. No reservations are required.
