Dobbins Elementary School student Jackie Grisdale was named the State, National and Grand National winner of Zaner-Bloser’s handwriting contest during a ceremony at the school May 7. Grisdale was the third Dobbins student to be named state winner and the first to be awarded the Grand National title.
“Dobbins places such an emphasis on handwriting,” said Principal Cheryl Borovitcky. “We are so proud of Jackie’s accomplishment. All of our teachers put many efforts towards the importance of handwriting on a daily basis.”
For earning the state title, Grisdale received a medal and her teacher, Mrs. Mooreland, received a crystal paperweight, $200 from Zaner-Bloser to spend with the company. The national title earned Dobbins $200 to spend with the company, as well as a framed writing sample from a master writer. For her Grand National title, Grisdale was awarded a large trophy, $1,000 toward school with Zaner-Bloser and the school was awarded $1,000 to spend with Zaner-Bloser. For this accomplishment, Mooreland was sent on an all-expenses paid trip to San Antonio, Texas, for the International Reading Association National Convention April 19.
“This is a large accomplishment for our school and I congratulate both Jackie and Mrs. Mooreland for their hand work and on earning these titles,” said Borovitcky.
