POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:

GIRARD

May 19

Arrest: Police responded to a complaint of a reckless driver on Interstate 80 before the vehicle exited onto U.S. Route 422, where they arrested 41-year-old James L. Stump Jr., 167 Bradford St., Warren. He was wanted on a warrant from Trumbull County.

Breaking and entering: Someone broke into a vacant piece of property in the 700 block of South State Street before taking $2,000 worth of stereo equipment and a $1,500 refrigerator.

May 20

Theft: An East Kline Street man reported his bank card stolen.

Arrest: Officers issued a summons charging Tiffany A. Morgan of 36 Church Hill Road, Girard, with disorderly conduct after responding to an apparent dispute between two women on South Davis Street. Morgan, 35, refused to calm down and to provide her name, police said.

May 21

Trespassing: Authorities dealt with a disturbance between three women in the 400 block of South Davis Street, then advised two of the women to leave the property or face possible arrest.

Aggravated menacing: A man near North Davis Street and Trumbull Avenue reported another man threatened him with a knife, then came out of a residence with a gun.

May 22

Theft: A Gary Avenue man reported a 5.5-horsepower power washer, a lawn mower and a chain saw missing, for a $1,099 loss.

LIBERTY

May 16

Arrest: Police received a complaint regarding an unwanted person on Frederick Street, where they picked up 27-year-old Summer E. Jackson, 219 Park Ave., Youngstown, on a township warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Burglary: Someone entered a garage in the 1100 block of Overbrook Avenue before breaking into the home. Stolen were a lawn mower and a 32-inch flat-screen TV.

Breaking and entering: Roughly 400 feet of copper piping was removed from the basement of a vacant, foreclosed residence in the 500 block of Ravine Drive.

May 17

Criminal damaging: A car in the 1700 block of Wilson Avenue was found with a damaged hood and windshield wiper, for a damage estimate of $400.

Arrest: Authorities at the Mahoning County jail retrieved 51-year-old Jerry J. Bohrer after learning Bohrer, of 104 N. Lakeview Ave., Youngstown, was wanted on a probation-violation charge.

Theft: The license plates and a registration form were stolen from a vehicle on Holly Drive.

Unauthorized use of a vehicle: A Wilson Avenue woman said that a Vienna man, 31, who promised to repair her car and to whom she gave $60 up front has failed to complete the work and return her vehicle.

Identity fraud: A Roslyn Avenue woman told police a Gypsy Lane business asked her to return a carpet cleaner that she had never rented. Evidently, someone without authorization had obtained her driver’s license, she speculated.

Drug paraphernalia: A traffic stop in the 3800 block of Belmont Avenue led to 56-year-old Karl L. Offerdahl’s arrest on charges of failure to comply with police and possession of drug paraphernalia when, officers said, he had a pipe with suspected marijuana residue. Offerdahl, of 8707 Howland Springs Road SE, Warren, also led authorities on a brief, slow-speed pursuit on Belmont, they said.

Drugs: Suspicious activity on Belmont Avenue drew officers’ attention before they charged Dyllon Pifer of 2888 Orchard Ave. SE, Warren, with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The 20-year-old Pifer admitted having suspected marijuana, and a digital scale was found, a report showed.

May 18

Theft: A Youngstown woman reported her $250 cellphone missing while shopping at a Goldie Road store.

Auto theft: A 1999 Oldsmobile Alero was stolen at a Belmont Avenue gas station.

May 19

Arrest: Hubbard police handed to township authorities 32-year-old Rachel E. Thomas, 707 N. St. Clair Ave., Girard, who was wanted on a probation-violation charge from Girard Municipal Court.

Menacing: A Church Hill-Hubbard Road man reported that as he cut his lawn, a Michigan Avenue woman drove by and shouted at him, apparently after accusing him of running over and killing her dog.

Arrest: Authorities answered a dispute call on Holly Drive, then took 39-year-old Alphonso V. Davis into custody. Davis, of 1740 Market St., Youngstown, was wanted on a warrant from that city.

Burglary: To an apartment in the 2900 block of Northview Avenue, though police found no signs of forced entry. A bottle of medications was taken.

Arrest: Police in the 3800 block of Belmont Avenue pulled over 24-year-old Leamon V. Joe, 1200 Robbins Ave., Warren, and charged him with having an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. Joe also was wanted on a Geauga County warrant.

May 20

Stolen property: Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle in the 4500 block of Park Street before charging Joyce A. Schell, no age given, of 283 Robinson Ave., Campbell, with receiving stolen property after saying the 1992 Pontiac Grand Am she was in had been stolen in Youngstown.

Theft: A Liberty Avenue girl, 14, discovered her $400 iPod missing from a table.

Theft: Shantae M. Findley, 25, of 1465 Townsend Ave., Liberty, was given a summons charging her with taking a bottle of wine from a Shell Xpress gas station, 4446 Logan Way.

May 21

Burglary: To a residence in the 3000 block of Northgate Drive after someone removed the screen and entered a side window. A 32-inch, flat-screen TV was removed.

Arrest: The Mahoning County Sheriff’s Department apprehended Jeffrey L. Bell, 51, of 423 Second St., Warren, who was wanted on a township warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Burglary: Occurred in the 300 block of Ventura Drive after someone broke a rear-door window and forcibly entered. Nothing appeared to be missing, however.
