Poland librarian Vikki Peck hosted a story time all about birds for 4- and 5-year-olds in the children’s room at the library May 7. To begin, Peck led children in a dance to “Shake My Sillies Out” by Raffi.

Peck read several bird-themed books at the story time. “Can You Find These Birds” by Cameron Bredeson and Lindsey Cousins, which showed birds from around the country, such as woodpeckers, crows, robins, sparrows and cardinals. Peck asked children to participate in an activity based off of this book, in which the children matched the name of the bird with its picture.

Other books read at the story time included “Grumpy Bird” by Jeremy Tankard and “Feathers for Lunch” by Lois Ehlert, about a cat that sneaks out of the house to hunt birds for lunch, but finds it impossible to catch them due to the bell on its collar ringing.

Peck sang “The Little Birdie Song,” which allowed children to move around while acting out different bird motions, before ending the story time with an activity based off of “Grumpy Bird.”
