HUBBARD

A Youngstown man was arraigned in Girard Municipal Court on Thursday after police said they found him in a parking lot at 529 N. Main St. about 11:47 p.m. Wednesday with a loaded gun.

Anthony T. Harrison, 23, of Townsend Avenue was in the Trumbull County Jail on $25,000 bond after being arraigned on the charges of illegal possession of a weapon, having a weapon in a school zone, possession of heroin and possession of oxycodone. He is due back in court Wednesday. Reports said the illegal-weapon charge was filed because pending warrants in Liberty and Austintown prevent him from having a firearm, and the school-zone charge was filed because he was close to St. Patrick’s Elementary School when arrested.

Police were called to the parking lot by a witness who saw a man in the driver’s seat of a car putting white powder in a bag who had a silver handgun in his lap, reports state.

An officer arrived and asked Harrison to step out of his car, which he did, reports said. The officer asked Harrison if he had a gun, and Harrison said he had one on his waist but he walked toward the officer, who put him on the hood of his car, and the officer was able to get a .32-caliber automatic pistol from Harrison, reports said.

Police found a small plastic bag of suspected heroin in Harrison’s pants pocket as well as a suspected oxycodone pill in the cup holder of the car.

Police asked Harrison if he had a permit for the gun, and he said he did not. Reports said Harrison told police he had the gun for personal protection.
