Only one athlete at Austintown Fitch’s Division I district has ever thrown the discus farther than what Falcon senior Billy Price threw on Wednesday.

Problem was, it came on the same day.

Price uncorked a season-best throw of 190 feet, 3 inches to place second behind Marlington senior Anthony Wilks (190-7). Both throws crushed the previous district mark of 182-5, set by Boardman’s Corey Linsley in 2009.

Fitch sophomore Dylan Latone won the pole vault (13-0) and junior Sam Ortz took fourth in the long jump to earn the final regional qualifying spot and help the Falcons tie Marlington for first place with 24 points after four events.

Howland senior Brendan Cope won the long jump (20-10 1/4) and teammate Taylor Fortson took third as the Tigers racked up 22 points, good enough for third in the team standings.

Boardman’s Steve Brown placed third in the pole vault and the Spartans’ 4x800 relay team also placed third.

On the girls side, Boardman’s Giovanna Silvestri won the shot put and teammate Morgan Hambrick placed third in the high jump as the Spartans scored 26 points to grab first after three events.

Howland senior Erika Airhart won the high jump (5-4), Fitch’s Paige Henley placed second and Canfield’s Kayla Barko was fourth.

Fitch’s Gabby Figueroa and Tradaiza Merchant were second and fourth, respectively, in the shot put and Canfield’s 4x800 relay team placed fourth.
