Mom: man burned son's hand

Staff report

WARREN

An Oak Street Southwest woman told police Tuesday morning someone poured lighter fluid on her 12-year-old son’s hand the day before and set it on fire.

Police said officers were called to a St. Joseph Health Center facility on Tod Avenue Northwest about 9:40 a.m., where the 42-year-old mother told an officer that an 18-year-old man, who had been beating and kicking the boy previously, lit the hand on fire about 8:15 p.m. Monday.

The mother said she went to the emergency room then but the line was too long and she went home and sought treatment the next day.

Police reports said the boy has a second-degree burn on his hand, and is mentally disabled and autistic. Trumbull County Children Services was notified, reports said.

Last week in Warren, a man was accused of trying to set a mailman on fire with lighter fluid.

That man is in the Trumbull County jail.
