Coroner: Man died of gunshot wound to head

Staff report

WARREN

The death of Michael C. Anderson, 23, of Seventh Street Southwest in Warren Township has been ruled a homicide by the Trumbull County coroner as a result of a gunshot wound to the head.

Lordstown police and firefighters found Anderson’s body last Wednesday inside a burned-out car beside a cellphone tower on Industrial Trace near the GM Lordstown complex.

Brent Milhoan, Lordstown police chief, said if the homicide is determined to have occurred in Lordstown, it would be the first homicide in the village since the 1970s.

The Trumbull County Homicide Task Force, composed of law-enforcement officers from around the county, is assisting the Lordstown Police Department, Trumbull County Coroner’s office and State Fire Marshal’s Office in the investigation.

Lordtown police and firefighters were called to the cell tower at 1:20 p.m. for a car on fire and discovered the body while putting out the fire.

The site is in a remote location away from houses and businesses.

The body was burned so much that investigators could not tell whether it belonged to a man or woman. Anderson was identified through dental records.
